Unique Equipment for Unique People – the uquip Story
What happens when a North German asks himself why camping gear only ever provides the bare essentials – but never something special? The answer is uquip. Founded in 2015 in Itzehoe, the brand stands for a single, clear idea to this day: Every product needs that certain something extra.
Itzehoe, 2015. A question that changed everything.
In the north of Germany, between the wind and the vast landscape, a frustration arises that many outdoor fans know well: the camping chair is good, but not special. The picnic blanket serves its purpose, but nothing more. And the handcart at the beach? It sinks into the sand at the very first step.
In 2015, a brand is founded in Itzehoe, Schleswig-Holstein, with a remarkably simple philosophy: Unique Equipment for Unique People. No more, no less. But what sounds so simple is full of conviction – because "unique" doesn't just mean looking different. It means: better thought out. One more feature. A detail that makes the difference.
"Every product should be able to do the normal stuff – and then something else that others don't have." — uquip, Founding Philosophy
The extra that explains everything.
What is behind "that certain something extra"? It's not a marketing promise – it's a design principle. A guideline that runs through every single product uquip has developed since.
Take the Liberty camping table: a lightweight, rollable folding table for on the go – that would be the standard. But on the back of the tabletop, a board game is printed. Because evenings by the campfire are more fun when you're not just sitting there. A small thing. But one you'll love once you know it.
Or the Sandy beach chair: all beach chairs have legs. But only a few have extra-wide feet that consistently prevent sinking into soft sand. A detail that everyone will understand who has ever watched their chair slowly disappear into the beach sand.
The Buddy wagon has extra-wide TPR wheels that roll on sand just as well as on asphalt. The SCOTTY picnic blanket has loops in all four corners so it can be anchored to the ground in windy conditions. The Rocky 2.0 is the only foldable rocking chair with bottle holders on both sides and an individually adjustable rocking function.
From the North to the World.
What began as an idea in Itzehoe in 2015 has grown into a brand now known throughout Europe for its unconventional approach. uquip products can be found in shops in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland – and are used by people who identify with the philosophy: don't follow the crowd, but choose your own way of living.
The range is continuously growing. From the first camping chair to beach tents with Quick-Up system and UV 50+ protection, all the way to the world-unique Rocky 2.0 – the foldable rocking chair that works just as well at the campsite as on your terrace at home. Every new product goes through the same filter: What can it do that others can't?
Unique People – who belongs?
uquip customers are not a homogeneous group. They are the biker carrying his Infinity chair in a handlebar bag across the Alps. The family organizing a beach day with the Buddy wagon and the Speedy XL. The hobby angler sitting on the Sandy beach chair – because it doesn't sink. The camper who doesn't just put his food on the Liberty table in the evening, but also plays a round of board games.
What unites them: they choose consciously. They don't want the cheapest or the loudest. They want the best thought out. The product that smiles at them in a quiet moment and says: This is what we were thinking.
Today. And tomorrow.
Nearly ten years after its founding, uquip is still what began in Itzehoe in 2015: a brand that makes no compromises when it comes to details. New products are added every year – and each time, the team asks themselves the same question: What is the extra that makes this product special?
The answers lie within the products themselves. In the board game on the table. In the wide wheels of the wagon. In the loops of the picnic blanket. In the rocking function of the Rocky. And in everything yet to come.
Sustainability through Durability – buy, repair, carry on.
At uquip, sustainability doesn't mean greenwashing – it means durability. Products built to last for years. And if something does wear out: spare parts instead of throwing it away.
It starts with the materials: robust aluminum frames, tear-resistant rip-stop fabrics, and high-quality synthetic fibers that withstand intensive outdoor use. A uquip product shouldn't wear out after one season – it should get better the more often you use it.
Even more important: repairability as a design principle. The fabric covers of uquip camping chairs – whether Barry, Roxy Air Mesh, or Justy XL – are individually replaceable. If a cover is worn out, you simply replace it and give the chair a second life. No new purchase, no disposal. Just keep sitting outside.
Spare parts for all essential components are available directly through uquip. From screws and connectors to covers and carry bags – when you buy a uquip product, you aren't buying disposable goods. You're investing in something you can maintain, repair, and keep for a long time.
